Our Continuous Improvement process is at the forefront of our work structure. We foster LEAN practices and promote change management throughout all levels of our organization. We believe that each associate has empowerment and ownership of “their 20 feet”. By challenging the status quo we find that those closest to the work drive the greatest improvements. As part of our Continuous Improvement process we utilize many different tools such as:
- Gemba Walk
- Kaizen Events
- Process Mapping
The Gemba Walk occurs each morning at our facility. We have a cross functional team that stops at each area of the facility to understand any issues they may have facing them each day. This allows the correct resources to see the issues and help resolve the problems for that area.
A Kaizen Event is launched for improving specific areas. We have trained facilitators that lead a cross section of associates in identifying a project scope. They then brainstorm ways to reduce bottlenecks and improve efficiencies. Items are agreed upon and implemented, many times on a weekend, and then changes begin with the following week.
Utilizing the LEAN practices of 5S (sorting, simplifying, systematic cleaning, standardizing, and sustaining) is vital to our success at SPM. Making sure that everything has a place helps reduce clutter and improves associate efficiencies. Point-Of-Use tools, work instructions, and parts help us achieve our vision.
We use Process Mapping to visualize our processes through Swim Lanes and Flow Charts that allow us to better understand the connectivity of each department. By using Process Mapping tools we can better identify gaps. Once understood we can resolve root cause issues to make our processes more robust and free flowing.
SPM is in compliance with and certified to ISO 9001:2015.
